The Clementine Ford Version Of Feminism

January 31, 2016

There are three basic attitudes that a man can take toward Feminism*:

Anti-feminist; Neutral; Pro-feminist.

Now, having read the work of Australia’s highest-profile feminist Clementine Ford for several years, I make the bold claim that I can briefly summarize what she would say about the attitudes listed above.

Anti-feminist  Obviously, this is the wrong stance to take. Someone like this may not be a misogynist, but they are not much better.

Neutral  Not as bad as the anti-feminists, but useless when it comes to fighting inequality. No good.

Pro-feminist  This is where it gets interesting. You would think that this would be the line to take, but this is not necessarily so. Ford has repeatedly accused pro-feminist men of trying to hijack the feminist movement. The appropriate level of involvement for men in feminist activism has never been specified by Ford, but this belief presents a serious problem: there may be nothing a man might say about women’s issues that Clementine Ford considers correct.

If so, then a strong case can be made that Australia’s #1 feminist has crossed the line into misandry.

*There are many different strains of Feminism, but they are lumped under one tree for sake of this analysis.
