The Ridiculous Hypocrisy Of Oolon

December 10, 2014

One the biggest internet clusterfucks of recent times was ‘Shirtgate’, when ESA’s Matt Taylor wore a slightly pervy shirt during interviews about the Philae lander smashing itself into comet 67P/C-G, thus sending everyone on social media into a frenzy of hyperbole; I posted my assessment of this debacle a few weeks ago.

One man who went after Taylor was James Billingham, aka ‘Oolon’. Billingham is a crusader for all that’s good and holy, a man of the highest moral calibre — if you ask him, anyway. Here is his Twitter profile:

I don’t have to tell you what stands out about this page — it’s the header pic of course, a cut-down version of the promotional poster for the campy cult film Barbarella, starring Jane Fonda. Here is the full version:barb3

It seems, well, a little bit pervy. Barbarella is also weaponized. Here are some promo shots for the movie, which are, I think you’ll agree, somewhat sexual in nature:

Now, it’s great that Oolon likes his softcore porn with a space theme. Whatever gets you through the night, as John Lennon used to say. But isn’t it a bit hypocritical to lead a witch-hunt against “Comet Guy”, yet present this on a daily basis to your 1600 Twitter followers?

As a reminder, this is the shirt that sent Oolon and thousands of others crazy:

Looks familiar, doesn’t it James…
